Big Tech owns much of the modern web stack, but many of the tools that make development feel alive still come from independent developers and tiny teams close to the daily pain.

The pattern repeats because solo projects do not have to protect ten product lines or satisfy a board meeting. They can look at slow installs, broken configuration, bloated tooling, and confusing abstractions, then ship the sharper thing.

That should bother the industry. Brilliant independent developers should not have to spend their best energy rebuilding the basement floor of web engineering because the companies with the money and distribution neglected developer experience.
